Please show your favorite military surplus firearms (Or your favorite bunch of milsurps) I have not looked at milsurps in a long time, but maybe, I am missing something. I own the a Ishapore Enfield (I did not know how easy it would be to get 303) and Tula Mosin Nagant. I remember I was going after the main battle rifles of WWII combatants when I discovered 357 revolvers. I think that a lot of us would like to see what is out there and hear any relevant stories. Thank you in advance.

OK, I'll start. How about an all matching Argentine 1909 with a little tiger in the stock.

I started off wanting every Mauser from all the different countries. Then I was told there’s over 1,000 different Mauser. That put the brakes on my quest. I settled for a few. My favorite is a Swede m96 Mauser and a Chilean m95 in 7mm.

The Swedes showed me my eyes weren’t that bad, I was accurate Shooting them with no scope.

Springfields

Wow! Sweet looking rifles above.

My collection of Trapdoor Springfields and 1903 Springfields. The bottom Springfield is as issued and is a .22LR M2. All have excellent bores and are very shootable.

I have a few- my two most recent are a 1917 Eddystone Presentation rifle and a 1904 Enfield No 1 Mk I***. 1917 is obviously on the bottom in 1st pic.

I’ve owned some scarce Mausers that I regrettably parted with (Orange Free State and M1948 Dutch Police Carbine come to mind) but can’t find any pics as it’s been a few years.

Loving that Enfield. The earliest I have is this one that went to New Zealand. It still has the cutoff and volley sights. It is DP marked, but some experts have suggested that this is because it retains the rear sight bed set up for Mk VI ammo.

How does the 1917 compare to the 1903 as an infantry rifle?

The only 1903 I have is an 03A1 National Match in a C-stock so not exactly a WW1 example but the 1903 is more aesthetically pleasing than the 1917 that’s for sure.

While kinda awkward in appearance, the 1917 has superior sights to the 1903 and actually holds 6 rounds in its magazine as opposed to 5 in the 1903. 1917s easily outnumbered the 03s in the hands of GIs in France in 1917-18.

I like older, pre-WW1 Enfields a lot. This one is still mostly a Mk I*** (volley sights, mag cut off, bolt-mounted charger as opposed to receiver bridge), with the only Mk III upgrade being rear sight. Mine was one of a batch that ended up going to Ireland when they acquired independence in 1922 as it has the ER serial # prefix.
