Sheriff Eugene Crum was shot and killed while sitting in his cruiser eating lunch. Suspect was shot and wounded after a pursuit.

It's a crazy world and in my estimation, getting crazier...

Yep.

Williamson, where the shooting took place is the county seat, about 13 miles from Matewan.

I could be wrong but Sid Hatfield, the sheriff in the movie "Matewan", was shot and killed on these same courthouse steps two years after the "Matewan" shooting. I was thinking that this happened at this same courthouse but I could be wrong. In any event, my prayers go out to the family and may justice be served in this case.

The WVU mascot is a Hatfield from that county. I would say he is related to the original Hatfields. He recently got in trouble for legally harvesting a black bear using the mascot muzzleloader! He posted a picture on facebook! Ha!Ha! The college just told him not to do it again. He told them that previous mascots had used the gun for other things or events before. Although none had used it to legally harvest a bear! Anyhow sorry to be off topic. I thought I would share a positive story from our great state.

Sounds like from reports he was well loved and worked hard for the people of Mingo County.

What a loss, another mentally ill person allowed to walk the streets untreated, slipping through the system and taking a life.
