Mint 28-2 6"...oops

I have been keeping an eye out for a 6" 28-2 to keep my 4" company. Found a great one locally for a very fair price, no box but Id have to call it 98% IF I was a pro. Orig Magnas, tight action, fired little if any etc...However, while I was cleaning it up I did something I thought I'd never do. I dropped it. It was like a slow motion incident, NOOOOOO!!! Bam.. Bam, glances off the table, lands on its side on the tile floor. Ooops. Nice little gash on the front blade (yes that is raw steel, not tile) and a really pesky scar on the cylinder. Help me out here, battle scars? Added character? Any of you made an idiot mistake like this? I'm beating myself up here...no it's not an unfired registered magnum but dammit it was perfect!!!

That's why I prefer the M28 to the M27. The 28 actually looks BETTER with a few scars.

I dropped a Model 19-5 in the safe, and broke the rear site (it was in a gun sock).

Well, look at the bright side - the first little scratch it gets won't seem like a big deal now!

Really, it's not so bad. The sharp edges could be CAREFULLY smoothed a tad, and then a light touch with a blueing pen. It won't be like new but it will be a lot less noticable, and probably invisible to a casual observer. No worries.

you can fix this easily and make your pistol more valuable in the process. just match the dents on the opposite sides with the one's you have just made, get it lettered to say it can from the factory that way and you now have a 1 of 1. maybe even consider calling it lightining the gun, you will be envied by all but trusted by none in that no one will let you hold their gun. i hate it for you that's like being the son in law and dropping the grand baby, it's your baby but they're still going to talk about you when you leave the room. good luck on the recoup of face. I bet you'll find very few here that hasn't added an "aww shxt!" mark to their gun.
Find a good leather holster for that fine N frame, take it out and give us a range report.

You barely did anything to that gun. No worries. It adds character. Carry it and worry a little less.

I had a similar experience one time. I dropped a damned near perfect blued Model 36 on the door of my Corvette. It chunked the paint before hitting the concrete garage floor...hard. Damnit. That was a few years ago and the Vette has been repainted and the model 36 has more holster wear, scars, marks than I can count...but I wouldn't get rid of the 36. It's been with me too many places.

I used to own a 95% nickel finish Smith Lemon Squeezer. I bought it real cheap cause it had someones SSN lightly scribed into the side plate. It was so light that I managed to polish it out and it looked like it never was there. The plastic grips were so nice the pat date was still visible. Wanting to show off my pretty cleaned up Smith to a fellow forum member I jumped out of my truck and it jumped from my hand and bounced off the curb and slid under my truck on to the street. I said a few words. That night I earned the name Sippy Cup. I wsas only allowed to handle her Smiths if I was sitting down for awhile. I feel your pain.

I really do hate when that happens, but it does happen... I'm sure it really bothers you, but it does not look too bad to me; that's a very nice 28. Look at the bright side, it could have been a gen 1 Ruger, with one under the hammer...!

I'd relate the mishap(s) that I've had, but it's too painful to talk about!

I dropped a pre-14 on my safes door frame good thing it was in a padded case (gun rug) the rear sight blade was the only thing that bent. I saw an old man drop his holstered gun down some concrete stairs he didn't know what to say when I asked "did you drop this". A friend of mine would keep his guns in his safe with no protection around them with the price of guns he finally began to notice the bumps and bruises and bought some gun socks.

It happens to everyone at some point there people that drop their $$$ cell phones & laptops and break them.

that sounds like my luck. i bought a nice springfield trapdoor carbine 45/70 years ago. with a really low serial #89xx. thought i would oil it up good so it wouldn,t rust. so i decided to take it apart. big mistake! while trying to get a screw to turn i smudged the screw and put a "2 gash in the stock. still have not forgiven myself yet.

Dropped Guns

Yeah, I think most of us have been there. I had just gotten my Ruger MK4 .22 auto back from rebuilding/reblueing. Very excited . Opened the box, UPS truck was barely out of the driveway, and immediately dropped it first on the metal trimmed table, then unto the floor. Scratched/ gouged it up royally. And I said a lot more than "OOPS"!!! -Ed.

I have two 4" 28-2's That i bought used but in new condition. One has
several dings, must have been dropped twice on gravel or concrete. I
dropped the other one in wet snow and mud while rabbit hunting with light loads in it. Had mud the full length of the barrel. Makes you feel
like a fool. I say any gun you handle a lot will be dropped sooner or
later. Dropped my 37 carry gun on the steel door frame of my gun safe.
Dings are inevitable.

I have never dropped one of my guns thankfully but I have dropped a Case pocket knife that was presented to me on my 21st birthday by my father onto a concrete floor. I was cleaning it and had two blades open, broke the tips off of both blades, I was sick. Luckily with some carefully bench grinding and alot of time sharpening I re contoured the blades to where it is barely noticeable.

I have a 6 1/2 in. M29-2 that was bounced on concrete and now the top outside of the rear sight is rounded instead of square. Some day if it bothers me enough I will file the other corner round so it will match. A gun is just a tool to be used and accidents happen. Wear and tear give it character and another story to tell. Irksome in the extreme. I have a number of guns with minor dings like that and it pisses me off when it happens but since I don't collect pristine guns all of mine are shooters, anyway. You live with the imperfections. Sort of like being married...

My model 28-2 fell on concrete but that is not the worse of it. I fell with it in my hand. We both got minor scratches but we are still going.

Well, it is what it is. Just about everyone is going to have a similar story; and if it hasn't happened yet, it will. Time will pass, and you won't be as concerned about it, especially if you are set on keeping that gun for a long time.

The two guns I've dropped, have (thankfully) been my own. I'd really be embarrased if it happened looking at a gun at a dealer, or if it happened while handling a friend's piece.

One I dropped on something soft, and the other fell off the bed, and hit the metal bed frame on the way down, but luckily it hit on the grips, which can be replaced if I want.

Its the "sound" that gets me when you drop one. Its unmistakable and you just feel your stomach flip. There must be some wierd connection between that sound and some prehistoric part of the brain that controls the vocal response. That sound always triggers a stream of obscenities...wierd huh?

It sure is, it's like when you are in or near a car crash, that sound is just awful. I usually watch Dirty Harry once a year and the scene at the cross where Scorpio makes him toss his 29 to the pavement makes me crinnngge.

I dropped my model 10, but got my foot under it before it hit the floor; dinged up my foot but luckily those heal. Those years on JV soccer team didn't go to waste! By the way, your revolver is beautiful and only a big collector would notice the little dings.

I recently dropped my 627 PC "Bloodwork" gun out my shoulder holster onto a carpet covered concrete floor. OOOPs---Luckily it sustained no damage! Bout had heart failure!

I have hit the floor hard a few times myself and have the scars to prove it. I'm still good looking...I say to just ignore the marks and eventually, you won't even notice them. I don't find a vintage revolver with some wear and dings from being used to be unattractive. You can touch up the front sight with a little cold blue. Its still a nice revolver.

I droped a realy nice 1908 Colt about three weeks ago into a gravel mud puddle on our first outing to shoot it . I even juggled the unloaded Colt trying not to drop it . My 10 year old boy looked at me and said " I'm sure glad you did that and not me ."
I also had the privilege of sticking my hand through my pristine 100% original grade "A" cotton fabric of my 1946 Stinsin 108 .
It can always be worse .
