Minty Model 57-1

This is my favorite mod 57! One of 4 made by S&W. Wearing KB grips!

That’s beautiful. And, one of only four?! An exceptional specimen for sure. What is the barrel length on that artillery piece? Hahaha!

I have had good luck with a product called RustePruff. It has preserved the finish on my blued guns as well as preventing any rust. There is a 1/2" felt pad in the bottom of the jar that's saturated with the liquid and a 4-5" square piece of chamois that's used to wipe down the metal you wish to protect.
It helped keep my shotguns rust-free back when I was still mad at ducks and geese. My rifles and revolvers have been wiped down with RustePruff before storage for the last +35 years.
I used to buy it in my LGS, but it's been hard to find, so I have ordered it direct from the company.

This is the model 29 Silhouette 10 5/8" barrel w/front adjustable sight but in 41 Mag caliber! It was suggested by a major stockholder, who was the president of the New York State Silhouette Shooters Assc., that S&W produce the Silhouette model in 41 Mag. They made 4 guns, the one pictured was the one bought by the person who made the suggestion, another one is owned by another member of SWCA, Hank Willams Jr bought one and cut it to 7 1/2", but the 4th gun is still out there for those who desire one. GOOD LUCK!

I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that particular revolver would find itself a bit north of my grasp in terms of budget. Fascinating though without a doubt. Thank you for sharing that. I’ve always been amazed by the variety of rare products that Smith & Wesson has produced over the years.

Thank you, it's always fun to share our finds! Your statement about "budget" might be true or maybe not! It is almost impossible to establish a price on something like that gun. We can't call it a "custom gun" but there are no sales to set "market value"! I will admit, this is THE most expensive gun I have ever bought in 40+ years of collecting S&W revolvers! Every time I have this gun out, I thank the old silver back gorilla!

Ive said it before and Ill say it again
41 is the most underrated, most versatile handgun caliber ever.
Mate it to God’s best action ever created and you have a gem.

Not a lot I can add other than Congratulations on your fine M-57. I am definitely one that uses all of my guns, and while I take care if them, I don’t worry about honest wear showing up. Maybe I’m odd, and in the minority here, but I’d rather see pictures of a well cared for “working” gun than one that’s pristine and appears to never have seen the outdoors. I dealt with the same dilemma on a M-25 I purchased several years ago. It appeared un-fired in the box. Now it has a little bit of holster wear on the edges, and looking at it reminds me of how much I have enjoyed having that gun on my hip.

As to the 57 vs. 29, I like both but hands down would choose the 41 Mag every day of the week. I always say that the 41 may or may not be my favorite cartridge, but it IS my “BEST” cartridge. Sat in the woods with one of mine last night looking for a deer.

Yes, sir. For as much as I enjoy looking at a pristine example of a classic firearm, I also realize that these things were intended to be used. The reason why they are held in such high regard today is because of the years of faithful service they provided to sportsmen, peace officers, and anyone else whose occupational, or recreational pursuits called for the use of a handgun. Beyond its beauty, I look at this Model 57 and I see a perfect handgun for hunting deer at the relatively short ranges offered by our densely wooded terrain here in Missouri. I see a revolver that just screams for some carefully crafted hand loads, and a range to show just what kind of accuracy it might be capable of as a target gun. I see the kind of gun that I could travel with anywhere in the USA without fear of being undergunned for whatever 4 legged predators I might encounter in my travels. I also see the kind of handgun that I’d want in my hands if trouble came knocking as I would have zero concerns about whether or not it is “enough gun”.

I can definitely see myself adding some “character” to this particular firearm before my time with it is finished, and it moves along to its next caretaker (most likely my youngest son). Certainly I will take good care of it, and it will not be abused. But it will also be enjoyed. I simply see it as too useful of a revolver to keep hidden in a safe full time.

Congrats!
That one is a beauty. 41 Magnum is one of my favorites. I’m trying to work a deal on a 57-1 6 inch right now!

A 41 Mag Smith has never come my way ( yet ) …. Only Rugers.
