Going through pistol boxes tonight and realized that the box for my Model 60 is labeled wrong from the factory. The revolver is the standard -14, .357 Magnum with a 2 1/8" barrel. The box though, is labeled as a -15 with a 3" barrel, the gun I should have bought! The serial numbers match, just appears to be a misprint at the factory.

I've heard of several mistakes of this sort in the old days, any idea how common this sort of thing is now? Sure wish I could convince S@W to swap for me!

After S&W replaced my 642 frame with its new serial number, I followed up with a request for a new box label to match the gun. Took less than a week!

I suggest using the customer service email addy, supply one photo of the box label AND the gun, maybe with the serial #'s showing matched, but the description not, and give a brief (one or two line) description of what you want. Keep it brief, I think they get a lot of email.
