The change from 10-2 to 10-3 took place in 1961.
The dash 2 never changed into a dash 3. S&W made so many Model 10s that they gave different dash numbers to light tapered standard barrel and heavy barrel Model 10s. Dash 2 had the standard barrel during the same time period that the dash 3 had a heavy barrel. Dash 2 changed into the dash 4 then dash 5. Dash 3 changed into the dash 6.

Good info, but you left out one detail the OP was looking for.
What year did the dash 2 change to the dash 4?
The dash 2 (tapered barrel) was replaced by the dash 4 in 1962. But the dash 4 was quickly replaced by the dash 5 (width of front sight altered) the same year.
1962 was also the year that the heavy barrel variant went from the dash 3 to the dash 6.
Both the dash 5 and dash 6 remained in production unaltered until 1977 when they were replaced by the dash 7 and dash 8, respectively.
