Welcome.Others can pin it down more closely, but my guesstimate is 80 or 81.

You're welcome.I happen to have a 17-4 myself.My number starts with 90K and I know that it's a 1980 model.Yours is just a little newer.

1973.

s/n range for 1973 was 4K1628 - 4K54104

The Model 17-4 came about in 1977 when they changed the gas ring from the yoke to the cylinder.

according to your box you have a blued, 6" barreled Model 17-4. Can't make out the stock as to whether it is a target stock or not.

Are you sure the box and revolver belong together? 1977's should be 10Kxxx to 24Kxxxx

Now if it was a 14K9257 it would make sense.

Yes, 94K9257 is correct. The green price label is marked J83 - that means it was sold in Norway in -83 or later. NOK 4080 in -83 was average $ 556.
Thanks guys!! :)

Prices were steep in Norway, about double U.S. prices. Below is a link to a thread about old S&W retail prices. Scroll down to post #15 and look at the picture on the left and see a retail price of $248.52 for a 17-4 (albeit a bit earlier date).
