I have a Model 27 highway patrolman, 3" Nickle, TT, TH & TG. Unfired in the original gold box. Serial # S268995. Any information on the pistol will be greatly appreciated, age, value, etc. Hope everyone's having a great Thanksgiving.

Hello, Happy Thanksgiving. Your gun should be a 3 1/2" barrel model 27, a very desirable gun and more so if in Original Nickel. Post some good pictures so that the membership can best appraise your gun, also because we Love pictures. The Highway Patrolman is a plain Jane version of the model 27 and did Not come in the 3 1/2" barrel length or Nickel finish except for a very limited run in 5" length for the Florida Highway Patrol.

S268995 likely shipped in 1966. If it's a factory nickel 3.5" Model 27 in box you've got a nice one. The Model 28 Highway Patrolman is a good working man's gun but only a very very few were shipped in a nickel finish, and not in the time period of your gun. Please post a few pics if you can!

I think there is a bit of confusion here. It's either a Model 27 or it's a Highway Patrolman, it cannot be both. A 3 inch barrel would be unusually short for a Model 27 and the Highway Patrolman/Model 28 never had a barrel shorter than 4 inches and the shortest barrel for the Model 27 was 3 1/2 inches. Measure the barrel from muzzle to the front of the cylinder for a correct length measurement.

Gents the OP clearly states he has a model 27... it should be a dash 2, so the gold box may be a case of Smith using an older box if its numbered to the gun??
