A few months ago I picked up a shooter Mod 28 from 1964 [or 65, I think I'm going senile] obviously it has the incorrect grips but for a shooter, do these grips work better then the originals? They are a bit large but not too bad, the originals were a bit small for the size of the frame were they not when it comes to shooting them?

I was not too concerned about the grip accuracy as it was bought as a shooter and I got a decent enough price on it to make it worthwhile to buy it.

IMO, the factory targets are way more comfortable for shooting than the N frame Magnas.

You can always get a set of stock grips and try them out and then make up your own mind as to what fits you the best.

It really depends on the size of your hand, the later target grips are fairly blocky around the heel, while the 50s versions are more oval. The magnas are really small.

I have average size guy hands.

My first 27-2 I bought in 1974 came with the Magna grips. I found them to be a little bit punishing to shoot with when running a bunch of high powered 357 Mag loads through it at a time. First I installed a set of Pachmayr Presentations on it that were much easier on the hands and now I have a set of finger groove Tactical Ahrends grips on it and much prefer them to the original grips and I also find they feel better to me than the Pachmayr grips too. And I bought a set of smooth Tactical Ahrends grips I installed on another 27 I own and prefer them to even the finger groove tactical grips.

If I had to choose between the Magna grips and the S&W target grips only, I would still choose the target grips. I find the Magna grips to just be too small for my hands.

I have a 1960, 28. It came with Goodyears. Have a mint set of diamond targets. I have target grips on most of my revolvers. Herrett Grips work well for me too. They are a little smaller than factory. Bob
