Hello.,

I could use some help. I just picked up a S&W Mod 29 in 44 mag. Everything seems to work fine in DA, however when cocking the hammer for SA, the hammer releases with the slightest touch of the trigger, but the trigger does not move to the rear (to the back of the trigger guard) and essentially catches the hammer. I just picked it up today and have not fired it yet. The gun is in great condition, blueing is in very good and the screws don't look like they have ever been touched (does not look like the gun has been worked on a lot). Also, if the hammer is cocked you can push the back of the hammer and it will fall very easily). Appreciate any advice. Thx.

If when it is cocked you can push the back of the hammer to make it fall than it is unsafe. Take it to a gunsmith immediately. Sounds like someone tried to do a trigger job on it and took off too much matereal from the sear. Your gun needs to be fixed in order to be safe.

YoungDa9 - that's what my gut told me. Is this an expensive fix? I got a good deal on the gun (almost funny to hear myself say that) and so if I have to put a ton of $$ into the fix then I will try to just get my money back. Thanks for your response.
