Mod 34-1 vs Mod 63-1

I’ve seen NIB examples, with box and docs, of the pinned, blue 34-1 4”sell for $1,200 at gun shows over the past few years.

They don’t all sell that high, but they often do. Blue, 34-1’s prices for unpinned, used guns, without box and docs, sometimes sell for less than $800

The 63s seem to sell for a bit more in used condition than unpinned blue 34-1’s. Nickel 34-1’s are usually more than blue 34-1’s when the finish is good.

Common finish wear is less tolerated in nickel guns than blued guns, and most tolerated in the stainless 63’s, probably because a few minutes with a scotch bright pad cleans up stainless finish wear pretty well. There’s less premium for great stainless finish than great blue or nickel. Pinned barreled examples sell for more than unpinned barreled examples with comparable finishes.

If you’re not in a rush to buy a 34-1 or 63, and you’re OK with unpinned, used, you can find good examples in the $800 price range with a bit of patience.

I gladly paid $800 for this one in 2015. It is a 34-1.
