I am new to the site, and S&W pistols. I just acquired a mod.37 airweight, ser#J59529 for $350, was this a good price, and can anyone give me a date of manufacture? It has original grips, and appears to be in great condition, I would guess 95%, only one very small area of blueing being rubbed off. What is the difference between this model and the "dash" models, mine has no dash.

Welcome!!!

The 37 Chief's Airweight is one of the all-time great carry guns and well worth what you paid.

The 'dash' numbers simply refer to engineering or production changes. (IMO , new and improved simply means cheaper to manufacture.)

Most prefer 'no-dash' models because they have the pinned barrel.

Welcome!! Looks like your revolver was a 1976 or 1977 era. Seems like a fair price for an airweight in good shape. the no dash signifies early version without engineering changes that came later. Enjoy.

$350 wasn't a good price for a pinned model 37 ....it was a great price! I've been looking for an airweight Chief for a while, got a nice 1973-ish one the end of last year with box etc but it was too nice to bob so I sold it. Just bought a 1956-ish "pre model 37" a few days ago, already bobbed. No original grips box or etc so at about $375 I probably overpaid, even though it's in very good shape-- esp considering it's as old as I am.
