Mod 49 need help identifying year shipped

Hello y'all I just bought a mod 49 nickle plated .38 bodygaurd , I was wondering how much is the value , j604459 is serial number mint condition and I. Bought it for 350 off my friends dad.

It was made right around the Bicentennial and you got a good deal at $350. I would expect it to bring closer to $500; a bit more with the original box and papers.

The serial number dates to 1976-1977.
I agree $350 is a good deal.
The SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson) lists the Model 49 in excellent condition at $550 with a slight premium for nickel finish but firearm prices seem a bit soft now so maybe $500 is about right.

Congratulaitons! You got a very good deal on what i consider one of the best J frames S&W ever made. Especially since it is finished in nickel. However, these guns seem to sit around for quite awhile when they show up in the used cases at my LGSs. I

From a new one to a beater, there has never been an ugly old style Bodyguard. Just JMHO.

$350 is a steal. Where I'm at that gets you a beater no box gun. Unless it's a friend or family sale as in your case.

Whoever thinks 49's are ugly simply lacks taste buds.
