Today I decided to visit Gander Mountain (the highest place to buy firearms) and I asked the guy at the counter if they ever get used prelock Smiths in. He said he had a 581 in the back so I had to see it. The guy brings it out and I see the 399.99 price tag and the first words out of my mouth was I will take it. The guy next to me offered me 50.00 bucks more than I paid for it lol!! I know these are not the most popular but for the price tag I don't think you can beat it. She is about 90 to 95% If the dullness in the nickel comes out she could go 97% I will try to take better pics later these are taken from my cell.

I've impulse bought two of them, and never regretted it for a second! The one with the Pachmayrs was a "throw in" when I was doing a deal for a Ruger GP100, the guy was like "You can take the 581 for $330 if you want that one too" and I couldn't accept fast enough. It was a personal purchase duty gun that was carried by a Memphis TN police officer, who sold it to the guy I bought it from. Love is a great thing, the guy was liquididating his large PD trade in revolver collection to pay for his daughter's wedding so he was selling revolvers as fast as he could get them out the door for whatever he could get for them fast.......his daughter must be really special, hope the guy she married was worth it haha!

Good move asking for what they have in the back, someone else would have snatched that up as soon as it hit the case......reminds me of the Model 60 I bought at Gander Mt. for $220, a guy just handed it back to the clerk and said he had to pick his wife up at the mall and he would come back and buy it...I told the clerk to not even bother putting the trigger lock back on because I was taking it........well, the other guy's wife cost him a $220 Model 60! Should have told her to wait hahaha

I would pay $400 for that nickeled one in a second, also looking for a 681!

Yet another Gander Mountain find. Their pricing makes no sense at all, but sometimes it comes out in our favor. I need to see what my Gander has in the back room, last time they brought out a few pieces I got a nickel 10-6 for $230 and another forum member got a 681 for $299.

Inkspot,

One day people are going to realize just how few nickel guns S&W actually made. I bet it was less than one in ten of the carbon steel guns.

You got a great gun for a great price and it's not so clean you can't shoot it. Enjoy.

I thought the Gander Mtn store near me was the worst..... but, I have to say that in the last 6 weeks, I have SCORED on 4 revolvers. I almost felt like I was robbing the place when I left. Dang near RAN to my car! ha ha ha
