Mod 64-1 has it, 65-3 doesn't?

I was at my local gun shop today. They had a very nice pinned but not recessed mod 64. 'Thing is, it had the spring loaded hammer nose. My later mod 65-3 has the old style hammer nose that has the loose play in it. What is going on here?

Can't answer for the firing pin, but the Model 64 was never recessed. Only magnum and .22 revolvers had this feature.
