Mod 64-3 DOB?

I just bought one of these..got the box and other goodies too(a first in my years of buying used Smiths)

Just when was my Model 64-3 made...serial number 7D154XX?(or tell me how to decipher the box label)

Just what should be in the box??...has the wax-paper..destruction manual..a sealed bag with rod and brush..various other papers including a little catalog peddling S&W ammo and another for holsters.

Nice gun!...Not your usual police trade-in Mod 64...this one could conceivably be new old stock. Not sure..looks to be new and I paid about twice what the well-used Mod 64 might cost.

The Catalog says it was born in 1981.

Thanks...Is the born on date reflected on the box label/s?

I just took the grips off..and the serial number on the right grip is off by 4!!...I do think it's slightly used upon better inspection...looks like it has had some jacketed ammo through it...can see maybe just a touch of black-smut reminants on the front of the cylinder. Used a bit I'm sure. The gunstore had a similar condition Model 60 with box and foo-foo...I got the impression they came in as a pair. I imagine somebody got the wants and traded in the pair on something else.

Sounds like you got everything that comes with it in the box. Post a pic of the box end label and lets see if the SPC.ORD. code is close to the date the Standard Catalog gives. This code is supposed to (?) reflect the date the revolver was completed and boxed, ready to be shipped. Doesn't always seem to be the case though.

Hmmm...looking at the box labels..the main label doesn't have any multi number codes...just hand written gun info in spaces provided(model, stainless, 4", 'S' for stock, serial number and such)

Other end of the box has a ten digit number though...0643094031..this must be the spc.ord. code...it's a Bangor Punta blue box
