I bought my 908 about 5 or 6 years ago. 200 bucks. Shot it a bit and buried it away.

After reading on this forum what old hands like yourselves think of the 3913 and 908, I think I want to clean it up and maybe shoot it Idpa and carry it once in a while.

Problem: Rust.

Only see it on the slide, but I do see it, and its all my fault. To atone to the Gods, I want to fix her up and then decide if I'm going to keep her or sell her to a good home.

Should I have the slide sent out and treated? Should I just sit down with some clp and #0000 and get to rubbing? Should I try to sell it on here since it's so desirable?

Thoughts??

That doesn't look bad at all from what I can see.
I would use LIGHT pressure on fine steel wool and oil. Then let oil the slide.

The best thing to do would be pack it up and ship it to me as quickly as possible, while there is still something left of it!.....Ok, seriously, do the steel wool and oil on it, then give it some regular use, they love it......I just cleaned up a heavily rusted baby eagle 40 for a friend, who stored it in his basement for a few years without any protection, and besides a few light freckles, it actually came out really nice, and he changed his mind about selling it.....

Good advice in this thread. Sometimes a gun and reel cloth will clean it up with a lot of elbow grease. It just depends on how far along it is.

I have used the steel wool with gun oil trick more than once. No harm was done to the finish.

I'd soak it in some Ballistol for a couple of hours. Then scrub it with an old toothbrush. Then I'd wipe it down with some CLP and nylon brush it again. Wipe it off dry and put it back together.

Then I'd shoot the hell out of it! :) Great little pistol we won't see the likes of again. From S&W anyway. ;)

Keep that 908 and use it! Regards 18DAI

Send slide to Trijicon for lamp replacement, THEN clean her up nicely.

Will be hard pressed to find a better CCW.

If you follow some of the suggestions here you'll have a very trustworthy and inexpensive sidearm. I would not sell it.

With light surface rust and shallow pitting I have had good success with Tin foil(aluminum foil) and gun oil:eek:. It was a tip that an old timer told me about and I figured it was already rusty so what would it hurt to try it. It was on a mistreated speed six Ruger and to my suprise it worked really good and it didn't leave any scratches like steel wool would have. By the way my Ruger was rusted a lot worse than your pics seem to show on your gun Good Luck
