My model 60-3 is an '88 yr. model, stainless steel of course.

S&W said not to use 38 +P or higher in this gun. They told me 38 specials only.

What say ye?

I edited the model no.

Hard to disagree with the official factory line, but limited +P use (say, 5-10 rounds at your monthly range trip) will not blow up your model 60. Extensive use will cause more wear and tear. After the -7 the model 60 is +P rated.

The factory gurus read from a script. We carried as did treasury agents +p+ 38 without incident. We did this with all steel j frames from the later 70's up. Personally I find a lot of practice with j frames and +p or higher a little too much of a good thing. Only issue I saw with +p+ and j frames were in the ones with the flat cylinder release.

I carry with Hornady Critical Defense :D, so it's not a big deal anyway. However, the +P ammo for practice is more readily available in my area.

If it was mine Id load it with Speer 135 grain .38 Special +P Short Barrel.

Assuming you could find any of that load for sale...... I bought several boxes of it before the current madness.

That load is what resides in our 3" Aussie Victoria Police Model 10 and what I will load in a Model 60 if I ever find a nice one.
