Model 042

Ran into one of these the other day, never even heard of them before. Please tell me all the details. This one has the serial number lower side of topstrap and 042 in white where you normally see the model number. Hammer, trigger, cyl release look forged and it wearing a pair of slim profile pachmayrs. No box or docs. I've done a search here and found a few threads with the last a little over a year ago. I'm wondering about the Pachs, did it come from the factory with these or were they added later on? These do not cover the backstrap. It has a hi-polish finish that looks black, is it considered a black or blue finish? Anything else that pertains to this model would be helpful. Thanks

IIRC, they were no-dash 642s that were finished in black, so the cylinder and barrel are stainless steel. I think the "642" was stamped over as "042." I can't remember the reason they were made, but there weren't a lot of them manufactured. They're quite rare. A cool gun to have if you're into snubs.

As far as I know, they came from the factory with the Uncle Mike's boot grips that were based on Craig Spegel's design.

The factory was having problems making the finish of the AL frame match a stainless cyl & barrel! If you magnify the "042" you will see 642 over stamped ! 4415 produced in 1992, never cataloged. They also did the same thing with an 032!
Posted before, but I like Centennials! Bottom right is the 042 . top middle row is the 032.
