Model 1

Hello, all.
I have what I think is a 3rd type of a model 1.
It’s a 22 short. Looks like it’s serial is 3233 (on the butt)

It’s missing the hammer, but otherwise seems complete.

This was in a drawer at my grandfather’s place when he passed 25 years ago.

I’d like to find a hammer and any missing associated springs, etc….

Anyhow, anyone who has any thoughts on it, I’d appreciate them.

Hi There,

The 3rd model No: 1 was made from 1868 to 1881. The 3rd. model was
considered different enough (or the serial numbers of the 2nd. model
got too high), that the 3rd. model was given it own serial number range
(1 to 131163). Yours is low enough that it was probably made in 1868
or 1869.

If I were looking for parts for a famiy heirloom, i would look for a poor condition matching model and use it for a parts gun. Post here in the want to buy section for either a hammer or a paperweight Model 1, since the price difference might not be much. Remember that those family heirlooms are priceless, so spend what you need to get that revolver in working order agzin and do not well it.

That Model 1, 3rd Type is the 'square top' barrel hinge variety (photo #5). Those were early production models. Only the first few thousand were made that way and then the top of the hinge area was rounded to conform to the 'modern look' of the arm.
