I have an opportunity to pick up a 10-5 3" heavy barrel.
It is wearing a set of goodyears :( instead of the original stocks.
The gun has a lot of holster wear on the barrel (about 2 inches)
and some holster wear on the cylinder.
However, on the bright side, it locks up tightly and the timing is good.
It looks like it was carried a lot, but fired very little.
It is not very pretty, but I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
Does anybody have any idea as to the value of this gun?
What would be a fair price to offer?

Thanks for your input.

10-5 should be a thin or tapered barrel gun.

is it a sq butt? if it is, its most likely a recent police trade in from the land down under

going rate on those as I understand it is somewhere in the 300~350 range

Sounds as if it might be one of the Austrailian 3" 10-5s that came in a year or more ago.
IIRC, Bud's sold these for $265.
Mine is one of these and sounds the same as the one you describe.

Yep. That is it. The one I was looking at has more holster wear on the barrel,
and goodyears instead of the original stocks.

Thanks for the pic.

As long as the lock up was good and the price was right I would suggest you grab it. 3" K frames handle well and are easy to carry.

this is my 10-5 from down under. I added LG-105 grips to may up for aging eyes. It is my favorite SW revolver. As California has a roster of approved guns which is used to extort money from manufacturers it cost me $500 for a. Private party transfer.

I bought a beater 10-8 to use as a truck gun, it was such a great shooter that I had it refinished and put on some fancy Ahrends grips. I have more into the gun than it is probably worth although it doesn't really matter since I have no intention of selling it...

I have an M&P .38 in 3" with a TAPERED barrel that Mr. Jinks dates to 1958. Not marked as a 'Mod. 10'. Square butt. Not a chopped 4". Not an Aussie. Interesting piece that I should get lettered.
Shoots great. Gets carried often.

I have a 3" HB 10 but there is nothing to indicate that it is Australian. How does one know? Mine looks like open stock production.

The only distinguishing marking on the Australian model 10s is the Victoria Police Armoury micro barcode inventory sticker.

I'd guess that many, if not most, purchasers promptly removed them.
