I could pound a slug through the bore of my 10-5 but am stumped as to how to measure with the odd number grooves. I understand a special micrometer is available for such measurements, but that piece of equipment is not in my future.

Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering what members here might have measured for their 10-5 bore and groove dimensions. This probably won't tell me what I've got, but possibly I'm wrong and the dimensions were consistent across that series of Model 10's.

Look forward to your responses.

The nominal bore/groove dimension for all S&W .38/.357 revolvers are .350/.357. It is rare for these dimensions to vary by as much as +/- .001".

If you are curious for reloading purposes just use .357 jacketed or .358-.359 cast bullets and you will be close enough. Makes no difference if your gun was made in 1899 or 2009 these figures work!

If you have a set of pin gauges check you cylinder throats, then use those to gauge the bullet you ran through the bore. If the bullet that was driven through won't go through your throats you have a problem. Either tight throat or over sized bore.
