At the gunshow yesterday I purchase a snubby 10-5. On page 174 of Standard Catalog of smith and wesson it says," 10-5 (1962) Sight width changed from1/10" to 1/8" It also has 10-6 listed as 1962 leading me to beleive my gun is from 1962 BUT according to serial number D3638xx and page 399 it looks more like either 1968 or 1971-1972 depending on which listing uner D prefix serial numbers you believe. Can anyone shed some light on this.

Model 10-5 had the standard or tapered barrel. Model 10-6 had the heavy barrel. They were both made from 1962 until 1977. At that time, the tapered barrel became the Model 10-7 and the heavy barrel became the Model 10-8. Your gun was from 1971.

Hope this helps.

Steve
