I acquired this in a roundabout manner, but I know it came from Aim Surplus as a department of corrections trade in. Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson lets me know that by serial number, it was manufactured between 1972-1973. I am wondering if anyone knows what the various markings represent. I figure each marking represents something specific regarding this revolver while it was in service, and I am curious.

NICE gun. I think it's Washington DC. District of Columbia but I don't know for sure. Some others will be along to say.

My newly acquired Model 10-10 came from the NYC DOC. Looks like the same badge to me.

I do not have the NYS DCS engraving on it but there is a pencil engraving on the grip frame.

The department was officially the New York State Department of Correctional Services until 2011, which gives you the full frame stamp NYS DCS.

Nowadays it's officially the NYSDOCCS :D
(No idea if they still stamp guns.)

Proves how much I know. LOL. But I have seen those buttons before. Not sure why I thought it was D.C. I thought someone said that once. Sorry guys!!!!
