I have been on a mission the last few months to aquire different barrel lengths of model 10's. I started with a nice heavy barrel 4", then scored a like new SDUSD Miramar 6", a nickled 5" came my way from a life long friend. That left me with two favorites to find a 2" and a 3". The 3 incher will I think be the hardest as they are slightly more rare on the market and the prices are a bit out of my reach right now. The 2" look to be almost as difficult as they too are priced much higher than longer barrels. But this week the S&W spirits shined on me again and I picked up a holster worn round butt 2" on GB. It looks to be an 81' manufacture, and while worn shows no signs of neglect. The action is slick as oil on glass and the barrel is clean and sharp. I was surprised to find the the grips stamped and serial numbered to the gun. I hope this is a nice plus. The gun came out of New York and I hope it was carried by a detective or other LEO, I would love to know it's history. Anyway here is a bad pic of my new best friend.

Nice find! Looks good with the grip adapter on it. I have been looking for a 10, or 64 snubbie myself. It will happen someday! Enjoy it! Bob

I've been on the hunt for a snubby K frame myself lately. After seeing nothing but prices north of $500 for mediocre examples, I gave up looking and went to my LGS and put a deposit on a new bobbed-hammer Ruger sp 101 in 2 1/4" 357. I'll resume my hunt again someday, but this will definitely help to ease the pain for a bit! Congrats on a good find, this looks like a fine piece!

The second handgun I ever purchased myself, which was in 1981 I think, was a Model 10-7 snubbie. I still have it, of course, and I consider it one of my best guns because of its incredibly tight lock up, it's excellent trigger, and because I can hit targets with incredible accuracy with it. If I have time I will use it this weekend for an Internet match found elsewhere on this Forum.

Model 10 snub guns are kind of the bedrock of my S&W revolver collection. I presently have 5 - I know, that's mean when so many of y'all want one. One of them is the one I just mentioned, another is a square butt, another is in nickel (gorgeous), I recollect one is the twin to the first one, and at least one is a Model 10-5 and I can't recall offhand what butt shape it has. I'm going to take a "wheel" picture of them one of these days and put it in an album here.

For the record, even the last one I bought was under 500 dollars but I do not believe I could do that today. One of them was purchase at an LGS a couple of years ago, marked $250 as I recall. It's one I frequent and I'm friendly with everyone there. The owner looked at me, looked at the gun, and said, "That's a $400 gun!". I laughed and said, "I know; I didn't put that price sticker on there." He just chuckled, shoot his head, and mumbled something about it being okay because it was me. Friends are like that!

SIAD, you didn't say what you paid for that one; I just realized that.

Recently traded my bobbed 10-7 to a local member. Even though I still have a 2" 64 I also just put a deposit on the bobbed SP101. You can never have too many snubs and who knows how long that bobbed version will be offered. I'm thinking it might be a good purchase. Also it should split the difference between my 640-1 and the 64 just fine.

I was in PA on business a few months ago and saw a consigned, unfired 10 snubbie for $400.....I hesitated and lost it. Lesson learned.

I do have a 2" model 64 on the way, but still wish I would have grabbed to 10.

What a great snub. All you need is a Fedora and a trench coat and you could be a character in a Mickey Spillane novel.

Yoda you are correct I never did say how much. Funny story, I had just lost the bid on a .44 mag I was lookin at and did a search (as usual) on the available 10's. This 10-7 was there and even though the dealers pictures made it look a bit rough it was started at a good price of 329.99, yep .99. I set my max at 330.00 and sat back to watch it grow over the next 5 days. No other bids and I got it for the opener. Twenty in shipping and 20 in transfer and it is mine. All of my recent 10's have been below 400 and one at 300. I will post some pics in the near future of my Smiths.
