Model 10-8 Police Trade-In, Which Dept?

[CA Escapee]

A LGS has a 4", HB, 10-8 for sale. It's a square butt with a bobbed hammer which they say was done at the factory (DAO). It's a police trade-in marked, "MPD 2038," and has Uncle Mikes synthetic grips.

Does anyone know which department owned this?

MPD 'may" be the Washington, DC police, which if I recall mandates destruction of their surplus handguns. However, it could just as easily be any other city/town beginning with the letter M who had this model issued/approved for their department. Photos of the gun and the MPD stamp may help with an ID.
