The "book" says 1961-62. Maybe someone can get you closer than that.

The only way to get an exact date of when the gun was shipped would be to contact the S&W factory historian and have the gun "lettered".

Otherwise, post the serial number and someone here will post the approximate date. Pictures are nice too...

Elmer, the serial no. is located on the bottom of the frame where the grip is. The number may have a letter prefix. My model 10-5 for example is C7077xx. Most people don't add the last two or three numbers of their serial numbers for security reasons. The -5 or whatever yours is indicates a change from the original model. Hope that helps.
