Model 10 locked up

I have a friend with a rather beat up old Model 10 (5 screw). He gave me the gun to look at when he could not get the cylinder to open. Thinking it was the ejector rod, I held the knurled end and turned the cylinder a few times to tighten it up. Now the cylinder is very difficult to turn and still can not be opened. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

The threads on the older models are opposite the current models.

Thanks Steve, I found that out. Got it open after spraying some clp behind the cylinder and dry firing some. Cleaned everything up and it seems fine. I can see where that extractor rod could loosen up pretty quick.

I had this happen to M&P. Found out it was reverse thread after, I turned and turned. If it does it alot, I may considr green loctite, but propably better to just get in the habit of checking it.

Here are a couple of things to check on for a tight or binding cylinder. Not looking to go to far into this but one of these could be your problem.

Provided you have tighten the extractor rod now back it out and then screw it back in and watch to see if it wobbles going back and forth. It should rotate perfectly straight

Check the center pin to make sure it is perfectly straight

Check the yoke barrel face for burrs and that it is cut square

Check the yoke screw to see if it is bound up

Then there is the possibility of a bent yoke but you need special alignment tool for this
