You have found a .38 Military & Police (Postwar) aka a pre Model 10. Model numbers weren't assigned until 1957.

Thank you now I can't wait to get home to clean and run a few rounds thru it. As I age I find it a little more fun shooting the 38 instead of the 44mag.
The revolver is very tight it just does not look like it has been shot a lot.

If you do not have a barrel of monkeys handy and want to have fun grab a M-10 or M-15 or both, a few boxes of ammo and head out to the range! Sounds like you found a nice one! I have a mid 50's M&P with a five inch barrel, if I want to feel good about my shooting skills that's the one I grab.

Yup, took my recently acquired 4" M15-5 out to play for the first time today. Boy does it shoot NICE!
