Hi guys took a long time but I finally got a 1006! Had 645's 4506's, about 4 years ago I missed a 1006 by 10 minutes guy called and put it on layaway dang. Ended getting the 4506 next to it in the gun case at boise gun company.but I finally got this beauty my friend knew I wanted one real bad and it has the original box, cards, manual chamber safety flag,2 mags and even the little sight adjustment tool! Wowzers! I wonder if anyone can give me ball park on date of manufacture? Anything special I need to know on it? Thanks guys,I'm super stoked! Serial is TFA 99XX product code 104800 spec ord.0118 as printed on box tag. Thanks guys

Well the first one that I got about five or six years ago.

It being NIB. I had to pay the going price for it at the time, No beefs there. The second one that I acquired not long after that, LNIB. I got that one for a song. Both are adjustable sight models and neither one of them is going anywhere soon.

...spec ord. 0118 as printed on box tag.

Specifically it's April, 28th, 1990, which strangely was a Saturday.

Sight adjustment tool? Never saw one. Can you post a picture of it?

Congrats on your find.

Sure here's the little tool that was in the box. that makes sense on the date since the manual is dated 11/89 and the warranty card. Thanks..

Beautiful guns. I have been wanting a 1006 but a 1076 came along at a decent price and I picked it up about a year ago. I would have preferred the 1006 but I got what was available. All of the 10xx series are very solid and built like tanks. Supposedly would take a steady diet of the original "Norma load"(200gr @1200fps) that was breaking the 1911 10mms.

In the past few years, the only 1006 I have seen in these parts is a Virginia State Police commemorative Model 1026. It is in its presentation case, all original, the shop owner allowed me to inspect it when it first arrived in his shop. I have not been there in a couple of months, but the last time I stopped by, it was still sitting in the display case with a big price tag on it.

I really wish I had bought one 20 years ago when you could find them at gun shows.

That is the correct SAT for that time. Semi auto owners probably never saw them in the box when new. And of course they only came with adjustable sight guns.

Attached is a photo of my 1006 next to a 5903. I've been told my 1006 is interesting because it has a black hammer and black trigger, and was likely very late production. The spec order is 3351, so applying that system I just learned about earlier in this thread I take it that it was produced on the 351st day of 1993? I acquired it when my great-uncle died, and it is one the dearest guns in my collection.

I agree...these are getting hard to find and pricey! I had been looking for several years before I came across this last year. Mine is just a few weeks older but came with the yellow mag follower. It was advertised as "un-fired" but who knows?

They don't show up here in CA for sale very often and are pricey when they do. I managed to find several boxes of the original Norma ammo at a show a few months ago and fired a couple of magazines full. I was expecting pretty fierce recoil and blast but it wasn't that bad at all. The S&W 10 series autos were purpose built for the 10mm cartridge rather than being a kludge of an existing design and they are large, heavy guns. Here are a couple of shots of mine including one showing size comparison to an M1911A1.

Walter Rego, Does any of your factory Norma ammo possibly have a tiny "NP" stamped of the primers? I ask because I've used a fair amount of the old Norma, mostly the 200 grain, back when Norma was the only 10MM factory ammo available. I've chronographed quite a bit of 10MM since those days. I found that even though Norma did not change the listed 1200@200 on the box, the later ammo, marked with the tiny "NP" on the primer, was loaded to lower velocity. About a hundred FPS less than the original in my 5" S&Ws.

ETA, I had a couple of 1006s, 1026s, and 1076s. I think the Op's and other's adjustable sighted guns are the way to go since there is such a range of bullet weights and velocity ranges available with 10MM factory and reloaded ammo. I like my current 1026, but would still prefer adjustables.

Rock185; I believe all the Norma 10mm ammo that I bought had an NP on the primer. I bought it at a gun show and when examining it before purchase to make sure that it wasn't someone's reloads, I noted the "NP" for Norma Precision on the primers and the truncated nose flat point FMJ bullets also looked original so I took the chance.

Mine is from early 1993 apparently. Spec. Ord. 3055, Serial No. TZR56xx, Product Code 108234. Features code on the label are 9SH-AS, what would that mean?

I had a Chesterfield VA Police issued 1076, but regrettably traded it. Now I've got a Virginia State Police issued 1076, which for a while was my grail gun. Both were 1990 manufacture. It would take a ridiculous offer for me to sell the VSP gun.

I also have a 4053 currently being converted to 10mm by a talented member of this forum. I'd like to call it a "1053" when I get it back :)

For some reason I never got into the 5" 10xx guns. Could be because I already had 2 other 5" 10mms. I wouldn't mind having a 1026. Definitely want a 1086 eventually to match my "1053."

All the S&W 10mm Gen 3 semi-autos are getting hard to find. They're classic all-metal and shiny. Who doesn't love an all-steel man-gun that shoots a short auto-magnum round reliably and feels like your holding a small tank in your hand?

I agree with this post.

All of the third generations S&W autos are getting hard to find in general. The 40 S&Ws and the nine mils not so much. But the .45 acps and the ten mils are drying up fast. And the prices are going up fast as well.

And that is why I bought a slightly overpriced, needs some work to be really nice again, S&W Models 645. The 10mm and 45 ACP metal receiver S&W pistols have become scarce.
