Just picked this one up. Model 11 no dash with S.A.P. (South African Police) stamp on the backstrap. Showing typical wear for a police sidearm, but mechanically in good condition. Serial number C503026, which is earlier than the range quoted in the SCSW. Would have probably shipped through Jonas Arms and Aircraft Co. New York City.

I have always been interested in the more modern guns chambered for this round. I have a pre lend lease BSR M&P and a Colt Police Positive in this caliber. It is a very straightforward caliber to load for once you have dies, a supply of brass and have decided on which bullet and loading data to use. At this time both Starline and PPU have brass.

The model 11 is an interesting M&P variant. Up until now the only ones that I have seen were contract overruns that some how found their way to the retail market.

The last of these were shipped by 1970 or so I have heard. Certainly most have been replaced by now.

It would be great to see some of these show up in the US.

Good Luck with yours

While I am not a small bore fan, I certainly appreciate a nice S&W revolver. Congratulations on your find. The 38 S&W cartridge was considered a decent cartridge by many. If handloading is an option in South Africa, you can improve on the factory ballistics a bit.

In any revolver, I prefer a wadcutter or very blunt bullet.

Enjoy that revolver, it deserves to be shot, a lot!
