Can't help with numbers produced but value is going to vary a lot, depending on the gun - and who is wanting to buy it. Pictures do help a lot in judging condition. The box, and the other stuff shipped with the gun, would also affect price, significantly. Your gun could be worth a premium to "pinto" collectors.

I have two Model 12-2s in my personal two-tone database, but I don't have a Model 12-4. Have you obtained a factory letter to confirm the finish? If not, here is the application:
Weapon History Request - Smith & Wesson
Expect a 2-3 month wait. Of course, value will depend on the original finish. An original example could be worth 200% of a normal Model 12-4 as a collectible, but a "created" example could be worth 50% of the same as a shooter.

My 12-2 has a pinned barrel.

-4s were from 1984-1986. The experts can correct me if I'm wrong but pinned barrels stopped in '81?
..and I suppose flipping through a Victoria's Secret catalogue without pictures is OK with you too!
