just picked up a 2 inch barrel model 12 made in 1982. what would be the correct box for this gun. would it be the 2 piece or the one piece ?

According to SCSW3, the 2-piece boxes ran until '85 for some models and the 1-piece boxes appeared in '83 for others. A 2-piece box is likely correct for your Model 12.
