Model 15-10

Anybody got a Model 15-10? I can't find any information about them in SCSW4. I did find a couple of items on Wiki and another place that indicated there is such an animal.

I looked at one yesterday, and it looked for all the world like a Model 19.

I don't know anything about a 15-10, but the only immediate real visible difference between the 15 and 19 is the 19's shrouded ejector rod.

Well, that's the thing. This one had a Model 19's shrouded barrel, with the cut at the forcing cone, (internal lock) and was marked inside the yoke as a Model 15-10.

I found a couple of indications online of a Model 15-10 made with a shrouded ejector rod.

I was thinking about buying it. I like the look of the Model 19, which this gun looked exactly like, the price was right, and I sort of like oddball stuff, but a closer examination showed the forcing cone to be cracked in the classic 6 O'clock position.

That's the only cracked forcing cone I've ever seen, live and in person, and I was just sort of surprised to see it on what is supposed to be a 38, and a 38 that didn't show a lot of wear.

Of course I have no idea what kind of history the gun had. The barrel was marked as a 38, but now (just being curious) I wonder if it was a mis-marked Model 19, or a frankengun assembled out of spare parts and such. I don't suppose I'll ever know, because when I pointed out the cracked FC to the seller, it was pulled off the shelf and disappeared into the back room.

Just one of those things to make me go Ummmmmm What did I just see? A paperweight I suppose.

I know that Smith reintroduced the Mod 19 as a classic but I haven't heard anything about a Mod 15 Classic. Things change so fast these days, who knows. At first, I was thinking that you were looking at a 15 that had been re-barreled with a 19 barrel but since it was stamped .38 Special I guess that rules that idea out. I hope one of the REAL experts will jump in here and set us both straight. Anyway, Happy New Year to all.

I just jumped over to the Smith & Wesson site and couldn't find a Mod 15 Classic. The only thing is that I'll go along with you that it may have been a mismarked 19 barrel. Good thing you noticed the cracked forcing cone.

OP: Run, don't walk to the door. I would. There's nothing noble in buying what may be somebody's mistake. Hope that gun doesn't re-surface in a few weeks...

Slipped under my radar...at least as I can recall. I’m surprised they didn’t cut back the forcing, lengthen the cylinder, and issue a 19 as well.

That's the one. I was disappointed when I found the cracked forcing cone. I really wanted to like the gun. I kinda like oddball stuff and this would have fit that bill, but the damage ruled that out.

Anyone know what grips those are in that photo? I have a new 67 and would like to get those grips. I assume those are conversion

I think those in the picture are the same type grips that are on my Model 19-9. I believe they are made by Altamont.

The ones on my gun are round butt to square conversion, and I believe the ones on the pictured Model 15 are also.

My local Cabela's has a older Smith tagged as a 15-10 in their Library. Fixed sights, 4" tapered barrel and no underlug, just the spring loaded barrel snap and exposed cylinder extractor rod (small end - not the ball often on pre-M&P's). Looked a little rough, but couldn't hang around waiting on the clerk to show up so I could peek under the yoke.

Yes, they have the cutout.

I've got a set of the Altamont Ropers in my "junk I might need someday" drawer. I had them on another gun that got sold/traded. They're a little small for my hand but look nice.
