Good Day all.

My Dad left us a S&W Model 17-3 in .22 cal which has a SN of 6K4812. Trying to determine manufacture year and then arrive at a possible price for sale of the unit.
No box or papers and a set of Presentation Grips by Pachmayr installed.

Can anyone assist?

Here are a couple of pics.

Greatly appreciate any information.

Dash three's were made from 1967-1977. To me, that's prime years for Smith revolvers. If it's tight, good bore, blah blah, I'd go as high as $900.

Your pics make it look like a 6" bbl. A lot of 6" models get sold in .22LR that maybe wouldn't sell as quickly, or at the .22 price, such as .38/.357.

Production numbers might have some effect on value, I don't know. No box, the usual story of a bare revolver. A slightly lower price might make it sell quicker, IMO.

Revolver prices are higher in some areas, lower in other areas. But I'd see it selling for $900 for someone who may not yet have a 17, even an 18?

6K4812 is from 1974.

I'd tend to agree with the $900 price estimate in today's market. The K-22 is a well-loved model and among the very best .22 LR target revolvers ever made. The only thing that might bring down the price a little bit for yours is the aftermarket Pachmayr grips. Your Model 17-3 almost certainly shipped with walnut Magna style stocks.

The $ 900 price quoted above seems a bit high perhaps . I can't tell the condition from the pictures but it would have to be in very nice condition and with the correct grips/stocks for that kind of price I would think.

My Dad was a gunsmith and he probably swapped out the grips as he and my Mom competed in competitions before I came along.

I have boxes that may have the original grips in them but will have to look. I vaguely remember seeing loose grips in some boxes but it has been a while...be worth looking for though.

I appreciate all the input and information.
