Model 17-3

I've been trying to find a Model 17 revolver to purchase for several months. I see on GB and other sights that the 17-3 seem to be significantly less money than other models. The only thing apparent to me is the lack of a trigger adjust. Most are in good cosmetic condition compared to the others. I hope someone can tell me the main difference in these weapons and the many other later and earlier suffixes.

The 3rd edition of the SCS&W states the Model 17 was produced between 1957 and 1989.

The 17-3 ran between 1967 and 1977. The engineering and production change for the 17-3 was the relocation of the rear sight leaf screw. In 1977 S&W moved the gas ring from the yoke to the cylinder and called in the Model 17-4.

My 17-3 6" is a joy! My best friends 17-2 is an old fuddy duddy! Buy the dash 3 and enjoy!

From a shooting standpoint you won't find any difference in the 17, 17-1, 17-2, 17-3, 17-4, The 17-5 you start to see full lug barrels and from then on more modern parts, which have no affect on the accuracy.

I have a 3rd Model K-22 as well as a 3T Model 17-4.

I like them both, but I like the K-22 just a little more.
