I have the above revolvers, and was thinking of getting a firing pin for a spare. Do they take the same pin ? Will I need anything besides a firing pin and spring ?
I found a place on Ebay that has a set with the pin, spring, and two other pins, that is listed for a 617, 648, but the the people do not know if they will fit my guns.

I have never had to replace one of the older rimfire pins, so any advice is appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows a place to purchase the parts, that would be helpful also.

I would think the only difference is the "6" guns are stainless, don't know for sure about the innards. But they should fit.

I have gone to gunparts.com and check for parts and cross reference. Check their schematics on both models and sometimes they will be the same part number. I find their website handy for this same reason.

Why would anyone need a spare firing pin in a revolver? I have a lot of no-dash and earlier S&W revolvers and evenly the heavily worn ones shoot fine.

Because I have had firing pins break in K frames, Colt Troopers, and Remington shotguns !

What does your reply have to do with my Question ?
