I have an opportunity to purchase a Model 17-5 that has yet to be seen except in pictures. I will meet the seller this Thursday to see if we have a deal. He is asking $700 for the gun which is probably a 95% shooter - just my type. This particular gun has a 4" heavy barrel with serrated ramp front sight, and with standard trigger and hammer. It has what appears to be original magnas and comes with the original box. Probably product code 100508.

I have a 17-3 in 6" barrel which I love to shoot and have been on the lookout for the right Model 18; which has proven elusive. My interest in this 17-5 is to provide cheap target practice with similar weight & balance for "K" frame .38's & .357's.

Is $700 too high for what is described? Thanks for any input.

Depending on your local market, that sounds to be between $100-200 too high. If you really want it and are not seeing many for sale you may want to spend the extra money. Good luck in your decision.

Thanks Alan. I think $600 may be tops for me; we'll see if that works. Anyone else that has recent experience with the selling or purchase of a Model 17 or 18 your thoughts are welcomed as well.
