I recently purchase a brand new Model 17 Classic from my LGS. The box indicates it's a .22 LR Model 17 Masterpiece Classic, and it is stamped "17-9″ inside the cylinder yoke. The S/N CTK-6672 matches on the gun and the box but it is not a .22 LR.
When I got it home I noted that instead of "22 LR" on the right side of the barrel it is stamped "22 WRM". A check of the cylinder reveals that it definitely is a .22 Magnum but it is stamped 17-9 on the yoke.
It's not marked as a Model 48 Classic. What do I have here? A brand new mistake that slipped through the cracks? Would this affect its value?
