I notice that my 18 does not have the serial no stamped on the cyl. or the barrel? Does that mean they have been changed out or did S&W quit doing that by the -2 model? My pre 15 everything has matching no.s.

I believe they quit doing that when they went to model #'s, although I am sure someone will come up with a model # marked gun with matching serial #' s on the cylinder and barrel.

+1 on what he said but there probably were some transition revolvers during the change that have it on the cylinder as S&W used up all of the parts they had on hand. However, I doubt there were any 18-2's with them in both places because they came out 4 years after the change over.

Thanks for the info. It looks to be factory but that had me wondering.

M 18's are great little guns. A pic of a nice one would be much appreciated.

Nice model 18!! I REALLY want one to keep my K-22 and 17-4 company. 18's are one of the hardest to find S&W's in my neck of the woods. 4 inch 63's are impossible too.

JamesK1- enjoy your 18-2 at the range while you easily out shoot all the Taurus "copies" you'll see there.
