Model 18-3 Grip Question

Were the standard grips square butt Magnas or PC Magnas and how would they be indicated on the end label? There's an 18-3 currently listed in the classifieds with PC Magnas and the label is marked with an "R".

I saw that the day it was posted and talked to a friend about it. All I can say is I thought the R meant rounded, but that is just a guess.

The label looks a little suspicious to me and the "R" makes it even more so.

Conventional Magna stock were standard on the model 17’s and 18’s. K frame PC Magna’s of that era were only supplied on fixed sight guns and the 2” model 15. It’s a safe bet that the stocks don’t number to the gun and were added.

The labels of model 17’s and 18’s of this era were marked S or T (target). The R designation on the box label was used for guns like the model 10 and 36 that were available with round or square butt frames.

The “R” on the label doesn’t make sense and the inspector and packer ID is missing. The label is really clean and bright for 40-50 years old. I’ll let yo draw your own conclusions…

I just snapped a picture of a couple of my model 17 labels. I don’t have a -3, but these may offer some insight.
