Selling some guns for a widow. Nice gun, I would call it 98%. TT, TH. Factory refinish. Date looks like 4 76.
A value estimate please. Will probably list it here in the classifieds. SCSW 5th says $900 for Excellent and plus 50% for a -2. I know the refinish hurts, maybe $1000 or so?

I'm not sure about that price, but I don't pay attention to that stuff. The M19s are pretty good & popular guns from what I hear.
I guess $1000 or so would be a good starting price. From reading posts here the re-finish is a detractor for the purists. Doesn't bother me.

You mention the "date looks like 4 76". Do you mean that as the refinish date or the mfg date by the SN? 1976 is well into dash-3 production; I'm guessing you mean the refinish. I see a lazy ampersand in the 4-line registration, those disappeared late '60s- early '70s. The diamond Target stocks would be pre-1968 and those look like Cokes. The stocks alone are worth $300 or so. I'd say $1000 is reasonable. Care to post a SN for dating purposes?

Interesting markings. 4 76 is certainly a factory service date of 4/1976. The refinish stamping is interesting. Looks like R-Bi stamped over R-N. R-N would indicate a refinished, nickel plating, R-B would indicate a refinished, blued revolver. I don't think S&W would change finishes, I suppose it is possible that it was mistakenly stamped for a nickel refinish, then over stamped with a correct stamp. I'm not certain about R-Bi.

Sure, serial number K558144. Photo of the frame shows 4 76 and R-Bi. The owner of this gun worked for the U S Park Service for many years. Maybe carried this gun for a while and then had it redone.

Serial number puts it as 1964.

Refinished or not, that's a damn nice M19-2.

Yeah, no. The refinish is important toward value.... It lowers it, factory or not.
I don't make the rules, but I gotta follow whether I like it or not. And anything not original is a ding on value.
For instance, I have 3 Model 15, 2". Two are nickel. Depending on the current market value, I could ask the the top dollar, no box price.
My third is refinished. Cerakoted, no less. I only paid $350, so I was ok with picking it up as a shooter. But is it as valuable as my others? No way. In fact, probably 75% of buyers wouldn't look twice even at what I paid.
All that to advise being realistic. I'd go $600 max.

I paid $700 for a -3 in nickel sometime last year. It was tagged at $750.00 at the dealer IIRC. It has the 3-T's, and the same "football cutout" stocks (not cokes). I date it to 75-76 just from a quick glance at 'the book." It's got a few dings and scratches but nothing awful. A little Flitz and Ren Wax, and it looks better now than in the picture. I've shot it with some wadcutters a couple of times, and it shoots as expected.



I got no idea on a value. Just another data point.

I'd guess $550 for the refinished gun and another $250+ for the Cokes. Ask $975 and have some flexibility.

For another data point, there is a 1963 19-2 4” bbl blued gun on Rock Island Auctions with current high bid at $1200 (hammer drops on 1/11/26).
It has the original finish, looks to be in very good condition, and has the original box.
Lot #229 in the current RIAC On Time auction.

I got a couple of M19 4”
Blue in the past year or so and they been averaging $700 or so around here. A snub 19 is about $200 more

$1000 and you'll sit on it, and they'll haggle you down,for sure....Go $750 to get rid of it.
