Model 19-3 Range Report

The S&W Model 19-3 I just acquired this past Monday went out to the range with me today for a quickie test. I shot up some old mixed-bag .38 Special and .357 Magnum ammo to warm up. Then did some 5-shot groups from a rest at 7 yards to see where the gun was shooting. Following my accuracy evaluation (all shooting done SA), I hung up a reduced-size silhouette and at 7 yards did some rapid DA shooting from the holster. I fired single rounds and double-taps. I was very happy with the revolvers performance and would not hesitate to use it for defense. I selected the Winchester Supreme PDX1 125 gr. JHP .357 as my carry load of choice. I also found out from a Forum member that my Model 19-3 was likely made in 1970.

Congratulations, every mod. 19 I have ever shot has been very dependable and accurate, unless someone has fed it a lot of high power 357 rounds.

Model 19's and 158 grain bullets go together like peanut butty and jelly, ham and eggs etc etc.

Bill, hot damn that's a good looking M-19. I'm lucky enough to have a, SMALL, assortment of Smith and Wesson revolvers, in assorted frame sizes. Yet the round butt M-19/66's are my favored revolvers. I find these not to big to carry, yet feel like I've got a serious gun in my hand when needed.

As I find true .357 Magnum ammo a hand full, recoil wise, I load with a Very Hot 158Gr. LSWC 38 special round.

I favor the polished aluminum T-Grip on my 2.5" Model 19. Nice contrast between it and the high quality blue on the early 19's.

A nice snag indeed! The only hitch I have with my dash three is the "gas rings" on the yolk rather than the cylinder. Approaching 100 rounds fired the gas blow by gets into the cylinder and gums it up making it hard to rotate. Other than that no problems!
