I recently acquired a SW 19-3 357 with 2.5 in barrel in nickel, but looks like Stainless. The grips have been changed to Heller wood grips, and a saddle has been put on the trigger. The gun is in excellent condition and has been shot very little. The man I got it from said he bought it new from a dealer but could not remember the year. I am trying to find age of gun also what the value really would be. The frame is stamped 19-3 and the serial number is stamped in two places ( by the cyl and under the left grip). The number is G12 776xxx. Thanks in advance for any and all help ..

19-3s ran from approximately '67 to '77. I could be mistaken, but I don't think that's the serial number, which should be located on the butt of the grip frame and would run somewhere between K715xxx through 9K99xxx.

Depending on condition, a nickel 19-3 snubby without original grips, box, paperwork or tools usually runs mid-$500 to mid-$600.

The stocks are by Herrett, not Heller. Herrett stocks are a well known replacement for original S&W stocks.

Thanks for the quick reply, I looked again and there is another number on butt of gun. The no. is. 10K53xx does this change any data ? Thanks ranger2283

Ranger, I can not tell for sure from the picture, but those Herrett stocks, or grips, might actually be for an S&W N frame size revolver ? They look a touch over-sized for that K frame.
Whatever the grips fit, the model 19-3 you have is a great revolver, and growing more scarce every day. Regards

The number on the butt is the serial number; your 19-3 dates to 1977.

I see you have the same question going in two different threads. Frankly, this is a pain.
Anyway, it looks like you finally identified the serial number on the bottom of the grip frame like I told you originally. I'm glad you got this sorted out. 1977 is correct.
And Steve Herrett made decent aftermarket stocks for S&W revolvers. They are not expensive or particularly valuable, but they were good stocks.
