I had a great day at the gun show on Saturday! Unloaded a few items and was able to pick up a Smith that I've been looking for. This Model 19-3 with a 2 1/2" barrel has 99% of its original bright blue finish. Only a pinhead size bit of blue wear on the left side of the muzzle and a turn line that is almost invisible.
The only downside was the Goodyear grips, which have been temporarily replaced with borrowed stocks from a Model 64 round butt that belongs to my wife. I'll be seeking correct stocks for the 19-3, since my wife isn't too happy about the Pachmayrs that are now on her revolver!!! ;)
The serial number on this Combat Magnum points to shipment in 1973.
Let me know how you think I did at $500 OTD. (It took a little bit of negotiating . . .)

Sorry for the flash photos, but we still don't have a lot of good sunlight up here yet!

Two 19-3 revolvers getting acquainted!
Here is a photo of the new snubby with another dash 3; this one with factory nickel and a 4" barrel. This was also a gun show acquisition a couple years ago. I paid less for this one than I did for the 2 1/2".

The snubby looks terrific. I think you did very well on the price. A good friend has been reminding lately of the fast-rising prices on Model 19's. I think he may be right about that. I posted the question here about Model 19 values awhile back and the main answer I got was that earlier versions have indeed been rising.

Mine is a 19-7 snub.

I think these have one of the better-looking barrel arrangements I've seen on a revolver. Right up there with a Python.

that is a beauty! i just sold a very comparable 2 1/2 inch 19-3 for 600.00, and have pretty much decided i let it go too cheap! 500 was a great buy!

Nice score Jack, apparently the lack of sunlight hasn't affected your eye sight!! :)

I have one just like it in the same year range and I wouldn't trade it. Congratulations. Those guns are a true work of art.

Sounds like you have the perfect excuse for some ivory grips; you saved about $200 that you should have paid for that gun and then you can give the wife her grips back!

Lucky dog! I'm after something similar. I was at a gun show this week end but hardly any snubbys there. And those were over priced!

I have to admit, cobretti, those look very nice on that revolver. The Goodyears that came on mine looked just awful. To make matters worse, they were square butt Pachmayr Presentation stocks. Horrible! :(

And before anyone wonders just how big a jerk I am, the Pachs I put on my lady's gun (temporarily) were proper round butt K frame grips.

So where do I find a pair like yours for $200? Now that I've seen them, I'm seriously thinking of finding some, instead of Magnas.

One just sold on GB for $1,125:eek: It had the wrong box alot of paper & a pronounced ring on the cylinder. Nice score on your side.;)

Well, you're not going to get any for $200, but as I posted in an earlier thread, I just secured a set for my 66-1 for $450 (I know, that's almost what you paid for the gun!). Ivory, like everything else, ain't getting any cheaper, and Magnas are a big chunk of ivory.

How I rationalized it was that mine came with the hideous rubber grips, too, and those were going to be replaced anyway. Every set of factory Magnas I saw were about $80, so I subtracted that from the cost of the ivory, and I caught a break from my ivory guy because I'm a repeat addict. Sorry, I meant habitual customer. So, after doing the math, I figured the best best course of action was to just let the wife buy them for me.

If you give Gene Beal of Gunner Products a call at (863) 660-8383, he can fix you up. Just remember that ivory is a gun's best friend.

Thanks, cobretti
I knew $200 was dreaming - but we can dream, right?
I appreciate the lead. I'm going to give some serious thought to your idea. Your revolver sure looks nice with them!
My wife said, "How about some diamond maple?" We have a friend who makes custom Ulu knives with diamond maple handles. That would look pretty good, too, but I doubt he has ever made any grips for a revolver.
Where is Gene located?
Jack

I always see Gene at the Orlando and Lakeland Florida shows. Just look for the tusks. His card says Kathleen, FL. (first time I ever heard of it!). Website address is Gunner Products. His 1911 grips are what started the addiction, and if you really don't need the cash, his partner can checker them or relief carve them for you. I believe he does the handles for Randall knives, also.

I traded my 4" nickel 19-4 toward the 66-1. It looked just like yours. I hated to do it but I really wanted the snubby!
