I've been out of the game for a while. My local gun shop has a blued 4-inch Model 19, not sure the dash off the top of my head. Does have the pinned barrel, recessed cylinder. Almost no flame cutting at all, the action times up perfectly. I would say the gun is overall about 85%. They want 750 for the gun as it sits.

Well, condition and even your location have a lot to do with it. 85% is subjective without pictures. If the gun has honest bluing wear, with no rust and corrosion, I would say no more than 650 for me, but i am a perfectionist, Pitting rust and scratches turn me off. A well cared for example with honest bluing wear is fine by me. However, depending on your location 7-750 may be right

I'm also having trouble visualizing 85%, but my first instinct is I haven't seen a price any lower than that in a while. I'd definitely offer less and see what you can do, but if it appeals to you, I don't think you'll regret picking it up.

For "me" 85% is truck gun territory........

do you have a 4" 19?
do you need/want a carry 4" 19 ?

When's the last time you saw one for sale locally?

I've got a safe queen and a shooter so for me ..... I'd pass.... but for you??????

You would think my Stepsons M19 is a good 95% nickel. On closer examination you would see it is 10% blue from carrying it on the Border Patrol for over 20 years. Still works fine. Big Larry

It sounds like your gun shop is pretty in tune with the market. It's not too high to walk away because they probably have a bit of negotiation room. It isn't so low that the first guy with cash buys it. It sems to be on the edge of what I would pay for a 4" 19 of that vintage in pretty good (my translation of 85%) condition. Like others have said, it is hard to know without pictures.

For around here that price is top end of the market. Not a terrible price, but it would probably sit for a while unless some neophyte Smith collector stumbled on it.
I have a hard time envisioning 85% finish or 15% finish loss. To me that would be a lot of finish loss and it would show badly against the rest of the finish.
If you are looking for a straight up shooter that may not matter but it still affects the value and I would not spend $750 for the gun. For me that would be $650 tops and I would have to be in a generous mood.

85% condition is significant wear on the finish and maybe even some rust pitting, scratches, or dings. Even in today's market, I think $750 is a bit high for what should be a bargain basement, scratch and dent Model 19.

I paid 7 for the 19-3 in this pic a few weeks ago. I guess I would call it 90% if forced to grade it.
