I ran across a 4" 19-4 in a local pawn shop that I thought was a Model 66. Upon closer inspection, it was a Model 19 with some sort of matte gray/silver finish. As far as I know, this is not a factory finish. Not "shiny" enough to be nickel, and obviously not blued steel.

Seems like someone customized it, but I have no idea what the finish might be. The front sight also appears to be custom work as the insert is black. So I ask the experts, what on Earth have I found? I'm guessing this finish would hurt its value. They're asking $450, btw.

Your photo stays the same size when clicked, so it is hard to tell what finish it has - possibly satin nickel or hard chrome. Not a bad price if you like the finish and it is mechanically sound, I think.

murphydog gets it in one. Only thing I'll add is since the picture's so small it's impossible to tell, but it could (along with electroless nickel or brushed chrome) also be one of the modern shake-n-bakes; I've seen cerakote silvers that looks like brushed hard chrome until up close.

Agreed, too: if it's in spec, the mechanicals are sound and you like the finish (which should be pretty durable), that's a go for it price.

Got a larger photo uploaded, thanks for the replies so far. I guess $450 is a good price, I guess I just want my 19s to be blued steel or nothing. I have a few 4" shooter-grade 19s already, so I think I'll wait until a snub becomes available locally.

If anyone wants to help me with the funds I'd be happy to go buy it!

I'd be all over it.
What's not to like?
Model 19.
Wear and corrosion resistant.
