just picked up a model 19-4 at the local show, i think i paid to much but ive been looking for awile and thise was the nicest one ive seen for sale. my question is that the frame has 68k9675 mod 19-4 stamped on it and thewheel frame has 47256 stamped on it, does that mean eny thing? just looking for all the info i can get on it, i went to the range and fired 100 rounds today and it shoots great, its my first 357 and my first post, ill try and post a photo, its a toss up between my colt 1911 as to which i like best.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on a fine S&W. The 68K9675 is the serial number and it comes from 1980. Other numbers are assembly numbers and don't mean much once the gun is together and leaves the factory.
We do love pictures.

Yes - .38's will make you Mdl. 19 a nice soft shooter. Enjoy.

I have found that after shooting several hundred .38's in any of my .357's that I will need to scrub the cylinders with a brass brush to remove a carbon or lead ring that will hinder the insertion of the longer .357 cartridge.

thanks for the info, good to know but ill probaly just use 357, i have 38's to shoot, just trying to take in all the info, i think im liking revolvers more and more each time i shoot it

357s are not highly recommended for the model 19.
The beefier frames are more suited to this caliber.
Better off with the 38s.
