Hi everyone,
I am new to the site I hate my first post is a question. I searched and read till I was getting cock-eyed and had no luck so here it goes.

I have a blued model 19-6 is on the box s/n 67k0*** I have had this gun for a long time. It is still in the box all papers cleaning kit unopened and even the price tag. (No receipt with date though)
I am not wanting to sell it or anything, its only been shot twelve times still have the box of 357 S&W shells I bought with it.
I was wondering the birth date. I was showing a buddy one day after he came over to shoot, and told him how long I had had it he said I was not old enough to buy one then. I am older than dirt now. I know I have had it around 25-30 years.

Thanks for the info sorry to ramble:D

Welcome!

Are you sure it is a 19-6? The change from -5 to -6 was around 1988. A 67K0xxx serial number dates to 1980 which would be a -4. Is the barrel pinned and the cylinders recessed?

Here's a 19-5, AYNXXX, from 1987:

Look anything like this one?

thanks for the reply's
You are correct snw it is a 19-4. I got it back out of the safe and on the box and by the s/n it shows 19 4 sorry. I don't see any pin on the barrel
it has the thumb release for the cylinder and the cylinder swings out. The grips are wood on the hand side the metal has grooves or lines in it and the bottom of the grip the wood meets up flush. I'll try to post some pictures.

Judging from the photos that barrel is definitely pinned. If you open the cylinder you'll probably see a "step" around each charge hole, and if you insert a round, you'll see the back of the round is more or less exactly flush with the rear of the cylinder, meaning that it rests on the "step" and not on the back of the cylinder. That's what is meant by "recessed." In other words, your 19-4 is probably pinned and recessed.

Hotrodder,S&W standard catalog shows serial numbers 57k0001-91k6800 produced in 1980.Yours should have been made then probably early to mid year.
