Model 19-8....

This could go in either the pre-1980 or post-1980 revolver forum...think I'll put it here for the Model 19-8.

Stopped in a Concord, NC pawn shop to look at a Model 36-1, nickel, 3" that caught my eye on the big auction site. Bought it for $425 and was pleased with that deal. But...saw this Model 19-8 on the shelf below it for $500. Talked them into letting it go for $400!

The Model 19-8 is from the last run of Models 19 in 1998-1999 or so. Has MIM hammer and trigger with frame mounted firing pin but no lock. Uncle Mike's rubber grip is the factory setup. It has a round butt frame underneath the rubber. There were a few lots marked .38 Special only for law enforcement agencies or foreign sale (forget which one)...this isn't one of them. This revolver is marked .357.

It's funny. I don't recall seeing a 19-8 before. Took me a few minutes to figure out what was going on with it. The action is smooth. It's all business with the UM rubber.

I have a 19 - 4" and a 19-4 - 6" (CA Highway Patrol Commemorative). Both are great shooting revolvers. I know you'll enjoy yours, shoot the daylights out of it!

Hola. Yes, I definitely got lucky. The Model 36 was priced slightly below Southeast US market for no box / a little wear and tear. The Model 19; however, was was a super deal.

I would have bought that Model 19 in LESS than a NY minute. Be interested to know how you like it. I am not a MIM-worrier, or a frame-mounted firing pin worrier. I bet it will be great! Congratulations on the nice revolvers.

I have a soft spot for the Tomkins era pre-lock, post-mim guns. The late `90s was, generally, in a very good place QA/QC wise. Still-new CNC equipment probably didn't hurt. They're also, as mentioned, pre-lock but can use current production parts and are still serviceable by the factory.

Your revolver's stainless twin, another pre-lock post-mim 4" 66-5, has been on gunbroker for at least a couple months now for nearly $800. I would have jumped on either for $500. $400 could be considered armed robbery in some states.

Any version of the Model 19 in that condition for $400 today would be an incredible bargain! The local pawn/gun/sporting goods store in my area would have likely put a $800 tag on that one and "settled" for $700.
